Items, pricing, and discounts
How lines get their price, the difference between line and order discounts, and how each one is written to the CSV.
You want the right number in the Rate column and a discount NetSuite will accept. Pricing resolves in a fixed order, and discounts are attributes of a line rather than extra lines you have to remember to add.
How a line price is chosen
- 1Start from the item's base price.
- 2If the order has a price level, use the item price defined for that level, when one exists.
- 3If that price level has quantity-break tiers, use the tier whose minimum quantity is the highest one at or below the line quantity. The line shows a qty price badge when a tier above the first is in play.
- 4If someone with price-override permission edits the unit price, that value wins and the line is marked as overridden. Overridden lines are not repriced when the quantity or price level changes.
Switching Price level on the Details step recalculates every line that has not been manually overridden. Overridden lines keep their price so you do not silently lose a negotiated number.
Line discounts
A line discount is stored on the product line itself as either a percentage or a dollar amount, never both. Use the % / $ toggle on the Pricing step to pick which one you are entering; switching modes clears the other value. The line footer shows the discount amount and the resulting line total.
- Discount item — the NetSuite discount item this line's discount should post against. Leave it on Default to use the default line discount item set in Settings → Order rules.
- The discount is stored with a source of manual, so it is clear the rep entered it rather than a rule applying it.
- Extended amount for the line is quantity × rate, less the line discount.
Order discounts
An order discount applies to the whole order. Choose a discount item in the Order discount block on the Pricing step. If that item carries a default rate, the percentage or amount is filled in for you, and you can change it. Selecting No order discount clears both the percentage and the amount.
How discounts appear in the CSV
| Template column | What is written |
|---|---|
| line_discount_pct / line_discount_amt | The raw percentage or dollar value entered on that line. |
| line_discount_rate | The value in NetSuite discount-rate format, signed according to your discount sign setting. |
| line_discount_target_ref | The reference to the line the discount applies to. |
| line_discount_account | The GL account reference from the discount item. |
| header_discount_pct / header_discount_amt | The order-level percentage or amount. |
| header_discount_item | The NetSuite discount item for the order-level discount. |
| header_discount_rate | The signed rate NetSuite expects on the discount line. |
| extended_amount | Quantity × rate, after the line discount. |
Settings → Defaults has a discount sign option. Negative, the default, writes discounts as negative values, which is what most NetSuite configurations expect. Positive writes the magnitude instead. The setting only changes the CSV cell; totals inside NetOrderFlow always treat a discount as a reduction. If your imported orders come out with inflated totals, this is the first setting to check.
Subtotal rows
Some NetSuite configurations require a subtotal line before an order-level discount so the discount computes against the right base. Settings → Defaults can insert a subtotal row before the order discount and lets you specify the subtotal item reference to use.
